M//R –AKA Billy Werner– returns to Great Circles with the shadowy gifts of ‘Forever Intended.’ A percussive journey into a fever dream future, ‘Forever Intended’ functions as a post-mortem analysis of M//R's 2018 'Among The Methods’ LP. Leveraging sub-level dub maneuvers and technological rhythms to deconstruct the hallmarks of the M//R sound, the EP steps out of the light of previous efforts and dives ever deeper into a shifting, uncertain sonic realm.

Opening with the oozing half-step reduction of the title track, Werner quickly stakes out the terms of engagement for this outing – counterbalancing cavernous pads with splintering feedback and hallucinogenic cymbal work, while a methodical low end pulse ties it all together. “Miles To Go” only descends deeper into the subterranean abyss, coming across like a warped refix of the ‘Among The Methods’ highlight “Rooms.”

From there, “Cognota” takes a hard shift into more angular, electrified territory, lacing intricate percussive programming with nimble synth lines that fire across the stereo field in high definition; while “Self Help” stumbles into the mix as a stuttering broken beat banger that’s gone all chopped-n-screwed, collapsing periodically into a languid promethazine haze.

To close things out – “For The Future” lifts itself out of the depths to end the EP on a declarative note, featuring a taut, propulsive rhythm that feels like a perfect distillation of the aesthetic M//R has honed putting in work behind the mixer at Inciting HQ.

The more things change, the more things stay the same.
